Knock knock...

The Presidency of the European Union, with regard to the situation of Ms.
Aminetu Haidar, expresses its concern for her health and calls upon the
Moroccan authorities to fulfil their international human rights obligations
and to cooperate with the Spanish authorities so that a positive solution
may be reached regarding her situation.

Knock Knock ...

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is
seeking "urgent" action from Spain and Morocco over a Saharawi activist
whose condition is rapidly deteriorating after she went on hunger strike
last month when Morocco denied her entry into her native Western Sahara,
subject of a long-running dispute between the two countries, UN officials
said here Thursday.

Pertaining to discussion on Iran, Reza Aslan a Scholar that I patron, said: "Iran is going two different directions, either it will become more like China and gradually permit freedoms or it will continual to become militaristic like North Korea."

The same I believe, is what is in store Morocco. If I may weigh into say that Morocco is already evidently on the path towards more freedom certainly this freedom will permeate into freedom of the press.

Being a realist however, any structure of power tends to not want to give it up. In any event, this process will take time and effort.

"In a nation that has a 1200 year history of absolute rulers, change from the grassroots is unlikely"

It is indeed unlikely. But that has nothing to do with a 1200 year history of absolute rulers. Rather, it is because the palace keeps its subjects cowering in fear. The collective subconsciousness has been carefully programmed by decades of kidnapping, torturing, jailing, or hitting people in the pocket. 1200 years ago, torturing somebody would have the entire tribe rebel on you. Today, the (police) state has entire control over the citizenry. And while that control might be used for good (through oversight, balance of power, independent judicial, etc.) in Norway or Canada, it is very much used used to defend the interests of the Alaoui family in Morocco.

What M6 is doing is classical carrot-and-stick, straight out of Machiavelli's magna opus. You have to also consider that angle to see the full picture and answer the questions you're asking.

Thank you for your modest contribution to a better tomorrow. Cheers!

Sometimes I wonder what it is that some leaders fear such that they stifle all forms of dissent and opposing views.
